SYMLABS RANKS NUMBER ONE IN VIRTUAL DIRECTORY PERFORMANCE TESTS

Results of testing performed by Symlabs now available in competitive benchmarking white paper

CHICAGO, July 06 -- Symlabs, a global leader in identity management, recently completed an in-depth comparison of how two well-known and widely deployed virtual directory servers performed against Symlabs Virtual Directory Server in a standard test environment that is representative of an enterprise network, and has published the results in a benchmarking white paper. These products were chosen since they constitute the majority of virtual directory servers in use across the marketplace, and the unmistakeable conclusion is that Symlabs' goal of designing extreme performance into the core of the product has succeeded in producing the fastest virtual directory server in the industry.

While testing was performed internally by Symlabs engineers, the environment was carefully chosen to create a neutral playing field by using industry standard benchmarking software, identical generally available hardware, and identical configurations supported by the products in common. Full details of the test platform are published along with the results to encourage independent verification by businesses that are evaluating virtual directory products for suitability with their applications and IT environments. A copy of the competitive benchmark paper can be downloaded at Symlabs Virtual Directory Server Competitive Benchmark (http://symlabs.com/symlabs-vs-competition/).

"Based on our experience as users, we were not surprised that Symlabs came out on top," said Anton Shmagin, United Nations Development Programme. "But, after reviewing the measurements, we were impressed by how far ahead of the competition it actually is. We see this data as useful not only to support a product evaluation business decision, but since the test environment simulates a real deployment it will also help predict how performance is affected as demand grows over time."

The testing concentrated on simulating typical client traffic under several common usage scenarios, then increasing the load on the virtual directory server to measure the effect on throughput. In each case Symlabs Virtual Directory Server was the clear winner. In a pass-through test against one competitor, the results were similar at a nominal load of 10 clients, but by the time the load reached 300 clients Symlabs Virtual Directory Server was delivering 40% better performance. In the same test against the other competitor the results were not even close to start with, and by the time the load reached only 100 clients Symlabs Virtual Directory Server had a 60% performance advantage.

According to Antonio Navarro, CEO of Symlabs, "We worked hard to make high performance a fundamental attribute of our software because it's the one feature that can't be bolted on later. From the start we felt that the need for speed would only increase in the future, and by creating the most powerful, scalable solution we could best serve the marketplace going forward."
