Client Applications

Symlabs Virtual Directory Server is a powerful utility that can help to resolve problems in environments that make use of a wide range of communications and authentication protocols, as well as a combination of different data storage systems.

Symlabs LDAP Proxy can be used to help resolve problems in any environment that uses LDAP as its primary communication protocol or as an authentication resource.

Both Symlabs Virtual Directory Server and LDAP Proxy have been tested with a variety of commonly used third party applications and devices, and have been used by clients to integrate these applications into existing infrastructure. Please take a look at the following application specific use-case scenarios to see how our products can help you to work with these popular products.

A wide range of client applications can take advantage of Symlabs Virtual Directory Server or Symlabs LDAP Proxy, whether it be due to shortcomings in the actual application, complexity within your infrastructure, or simply to enhance overall performance and responsivity.

Typical problems for client applications in any infrastructure can include:

  • The ability to only connect to a single backend repository, while your data may be more distributed
  • Schema specific queries, where you backend repository may not be configured to offer the required schema
  • Inability to integrate with Kerberos protected environments, such as Active Directory
  • Other authentication problems, such as cross-domain authentication or routed BIND requests
  • Inappropriate security controls and internal policy constraints
  • Poorly coded queries that are causing load on backend systems
  • Inability to handle dynamic groups
  • Appropriate handling of referrals
  • Data validation requirements
  • Data formatting requirements

There are many other scenarios where a virtual directory or LDAP Proxy system may prove beneficial or can resolve very specific problems. A combination of plugins and the ability to write custom solutions directly manipulating packets of data as they move through the system, can be used to cater to a huge range of scenarios.
