Challenge

Cisco IronPortCisco IronPort devices provide an Anti-Spam/Anti-Virus layer into corporate email infrastructure. These powerful standalone devices filter email before it reaches the internal email SMTP server, and will quarantine suspicious messages. Cisco IronPort can be configured to use an external LDAP resource such as an Active Directory to handle authentication to the quarantined storage.

Unfortunately, Cisco IronPort devices currently only support the use of a single LDAP resource to handle authentication. This means that for enterprises that handle authentication across multiple domains or user repositories, the Cisco IronPort device cannot be adequately configured to handle authentication for all domains or repositories.

Solution

Cisco IronPort SolutionSymlabs LDAP Proxy can be used to extend authentication to multiple domains and/or user repositories, through the abstraction layer created with our product. This results in easy integration of new domains with the Cisco IronPort device, allowing the device to authenticate new users from new domains within a matter of minutes and with minimal configuration change and no interruption of service to the actual Cisco IronPort device. By combining user repositories through the single point of access provided by LDAP Proxy, it is possible to avoid data replication or synchronization to achieve integration in a few easy steps.

Benefits
  • Extend authentication mechanisms to multiple data repositories and across domains.
  • Easy addition of new sources of users to the use of Cisco IronPort.
